This 4-day Kenyan safari covers the top Kenya wildlife parks. The Masai Mara National Reserve, famous for its population of lions, leopards, cheetahs and the yearly migration of zebra and wildebeest, occurring from July to October. You’ll also visit Lake Nakuru National Park, found at the foot of the Great Rift Valley and is known for the presence of the Big Five, except for elephants. It is a bird’s sanctuary (flamingos) and the only park you are assured of seeing the black and white rhinos.
Pickup from the airport or your hotel and travel towards the fertile highlands of Kenya leading down via the Great Rift Valley escarpment, on a road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War 11. Have a glimpse for the attractive chapel they built at the foot of the escarpment. Pass via the magnificent Longonot earth satellite station as you proceed across the Valley to Narok. Experiencing breathtaking views of the world’s greatest land rift and move across acres of barley and wheat, before you reach the Maasai Mara in time for Lunch.
The vast plains rumble with thunder of approaching hooves as 1.5 million wildebeest migrate up north east into Maasai Mara from July till the end of September. The great migration is a vision beyond relief as on of the world’s most impressive spectacles directed by raw forces of nature you will also appreciate its high animal concentration and abundance black maned lions, roan antelope, though luck essential for spotting leopard and rhino.
A very early morning game drive in the Masai Mara – the ideal time to see game as temperatures are cooler and hopefully lion, cheetah and leopard will be roaming the vast grasslands in search of prey. Return to the lodge for breakfast. The rest of the morning at leisure or partake in optional activities, a visit to Masai village to see their nomadic life this at extra cost. After lunch at the lodge, there is a chance to relax by the swimming pool before an evening game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Optional Balloon Safari
A well worth it and recommended activity in the Masai Mara National Reserve is the balloon safari early in the morning; you will be woken and driven to the departure site. Once in the air, the view of the surrounding landscape, the rising of the sun between the mountains and the congregation of the animals at the river is beautiful. This all concludes with a champagne breakfast and memories of a lifetime.
Depart Mara after breakfast & head straight to Nakuru where you will be accommodated for a night on full board basis.
The park is home to warthogs, waterbuck, buffaloes, reedbucks, and the occasional leopard. White and black rhinos were introduced to the park some years ago and you will find white rhino at the southern end. The park has also retained its reputation as an ornithologists’ delight with more than 400 species of bird found here. Once in the park, there will be a game drive en route to the lodge. Have lunch and rest a bit in preparation for an afternoon game drive before returning to the lodge in the evening.
After breakfast, you will checkout and drive back to Nairobi where upon arrival, you will be dropped off at the airport or your hotel, thus ending this wonderful safari with us.
